MIX #002 - MAY


Liza Likes Noise second installment! Original post here!

Like the first mix, this was a Sp*tify playlist to begin with. Tracking down all these songs a year later was an enjoyable process for me. I revisited songs I hadn’t listened to in a while (the ability that this All Dogs song has to instantly transport me, sensorily, to the mind I lived in at 20/21 is truly incredible and slightly painful) and noticed where, in my original mix-making process, I would still let an algorithm take the lead on song selection or order. I do see the mix as “finished” so I left everything as-is, even though I considered re-ordering and cutting some songs. It’s for posterity, I suppose.


This mix spans high camp/“magic pop”, angular, discordant rock (post- and otherwise), lofi and hifi bedroom noise. The ONE change I made was to replace Mei Semones' "I Can Do What I Want" with a live version of the song from kexp. imo, Mei's earnest lyrics and shifting ratio of math/pop/jazz shine through in live recording better than in what's (currently) recorded!
